Nagambie Youth AquaSafe Day and Skate Park Party

This March Labour Day weekend, Strathbogie Shire Council is hosting two FReeZA youth events in Nagambie featuring live music, outdoor activities and food for all to enjoy.

AquaSafe Day will be held from 1pm on Saturday 8 March at Buckley Park, Nagambie, and the Skate Park Party will take place on Sunday 9 March from 3pm the Nagambie Skate Park on Filson Street, Nagambie.

AquaSafe Day is a fun outdoor event with live music, food trucks and water activities to build confidence, safety and water skills in young people.

On Sunday, the Skate Park Party will include beginner skateboarding sessions, a skate jam with prizes and trophies, a free barbeque, live music and an outdoor cinema screening of The Wild Robot [PG].

Local bands and solo acts that will feature across the two-day celebrations include The Viceroys, Jeremiah Johnston, Anthony Chisholm and Clean Coil, while food trucks will also be on site on Saturday to nourish and rejuvenate participants and spectators, a free barbeque will be provided at the Skate Park on Sunday.

Mayor Claire Ewart-Kennedy said, “We encourage youth to engage and attend AquaSafe Day and the Skate Park Party. They provide an inclusive, safe and fun environment for our youth to learn and discover new activities in and around Nagambie.”

According to the Royal Life Saving Society’s National Drowning Report 2024, there were 323 people who drowned in Australia, with the 10-year average of total drownings increasing by 16% between 2023-2024,

The Mayor added, “We are aware that some members of the community do not have access or resources to learn about water safety, so we are pleased to provide this opportunity for all abilities at Lake Nagambie.”

AquaSafe Day is supported by Strathbogie Shire Council, FReeZA Crew, GoAdventure, the Nagambie Rowing Club and the Nagambie Sailing Club to deliver impactful, educational water safety information to support the community of Strathbogie Shire.

“Events that upskill and support the youth in our community are imperative to build understanding and confidence for their future,” said Mayor Ewart-Kennedy.
