Roadside Firewood Collection

Roadside Firewood collection

Dead and fallen timber are an important habitat for our native flora and fauna. This means that firewood collection for domestic use is only permitted on lower conservation roadsides throughout the municipality.

A Roadside Firewood Collection permit is required to collect firewood on Councils roadsides. These are available from Council's Customer Service Staff and cost $16.00 per cubic meter. Staff are able to help you determine which roadsides are suitable or alternatively you can use the below map.

Please note:

  • Firewood collection is NOT permitted on any roads managed by VicRoads
  • Firewood collection is only allowed during the following periods - Autumn (1st March to 30th June) and Spring (1st September to 30th November)
  • During Autumn and Spring some areas or State Forest are designated firewood collection areas. There are rules but not fees. Further informtion can be found at the Forest Management Victoria Website here

Collection is only permitted from roads that have a Medium Conservation rating (Yellow) or no conservation rating (no colour)
