Council advocates for gender equality and respect

Thursday, 29 November, 2018

The World Health Organisation (2017) estimates about one in three women worldwide have experienced either physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime.

This is among a string of shocking statistics that currently surround gender-based violence.

The 16 Days of Activism is a global campaign dedicated to raising awareness about violence against women and the impact of gender-based violence.

The campaign starts on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and concludes on 10 December, International Human Rights Day.

Strathbogie Shire Council has joined a number of other councils in North East Victoria to advocate for gender equity and respect in its local community.

This year, Strathbogie is running a social media campaign with videos and content addressing the direct link between gender inequity and violence.
