First cattle sale for 2018-19 financial year

Thursday, 5 July, 2018

Euroa agents offered 1100 cattle for their first monthly sale of the 2018-19 financial year on Wednesday 4 July.

Numbers were down 1400 from the previous sale, which was the premium end of financial year sale.

Landmark Euroa Stock Agent Rod Carnegie said the results were reflective of a typical winter sale, with the added pressures associated with low rainfall and feed to keep cattle going through the winter conditions.

“Prices for grown steers were generally at a similar rate to the previous sale, but lighter steers were up to $10-20 less than the previous market,” Mr Carnegie said.

“Generally, the cattle on offer didn’t have the level of quality as the previous feature sale and buyers were more tentative with steers under the 260kg mark.”

“Heavy heifers were quite strong, but lighter heifers were up to $50 cheaper and again, the quality wasn’t the same as the previous sale,” he explained.
