wawa Euroa wayilak

24 September, 2024 10:00 am - 12:30 pm

Join us for the wawa Euroa wayilak event, celebrating Taungurung culture for children aged 5-12 at the Euroa Arboretum. This event, part of Strathbogie Shire Council’s ongoing commitment to the Memorandum of Understanding with the Taungurung Land and Waters Council, offers a meaningful cultural experience that aligns with flood recovery efforts.

Supported by The Community Recovery Hub, funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments through the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), the event will feature a Welcome Smoking Ceremony, a guided walk to explore the cultural significance of local plants, bush food tasting, seed grinding, and listening to the natural sounds of the environment. Children will also enjoy morning tea, an art class, and the opportunity to try on a traditional possum skin cloak, providing a hands-on introduction to Taungurung culture.

This event is a valuable opportunity for young participants and their families to deepen their connection to the rich heritage of the Taungurung people.
